Meet Jack the Harbour Porpoise

This is Jack, a male harbour porpoise living at the Vancouver Aquarium in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He is a rescued and rehabilitated animal deemed non-releasable by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, found as a baby when he was between 4 and 6 weeks old. After extensive rehabilitation he joined Daisy, another rescued and rehabilitated harbour porpoise, at the Vancouver Aquarium. Together they are the only two representatives of their species in human care in North America.

This is a series of pictures I decided to post as the species is so poorly represented, little understood - and endangered in part of their range. They are also close relatives of the critically endangered vaquita porpoise, the smallest cetacean in the world, a species endemic to the Gulf of California in Mexico.
